The Strongsville School for Strings is a violin and viola studio for students and families in Northeast Ohio. Its purpose is to enrich the lives of community residents by strengthening family and friendship bonds through shared music study and by contributing to vibrant cultural life in Strongsville.

Located in the Strongsville Historical Village, Strongsville School for Strings will offer both traditional and Suzuki violin and viola lessons. Anyone, from children to adults, who is interested in private violin and viola lessons is welcome.

The youngest children (ages 4 and up) will be offered lessons using the Suzuki method. In this program, students will attend weekly lessons with a parent who will learn alongside their child and assist with practicing at home. These families will also be offered a semi-weekly group class where they will learn new skills along with other students while reinforcing what they have learned in lessons and becoming friends with other kids who play the violin.

Older children, teens, and adults can sign up for private lessons. Students enrolled in the Strongsville City Schools orchestral programs are especially encouraged to take private lessons.

Founder and director Carol Ross’s career as an artist-teacher and performer of violin and viola has spanned over three decades. Her leadership positions in professional orchestras and extensive performing experience as a recitalist and chamber musician have richly informed her teaching. She is extraordinarily proud of her many students who have continued their studies and become successful artists and teachers themselves. She is equally delighted with those who continue their lifelong love of music while pursuing other professional paths.

Suzuki Violin
Strongsville School for Strings
new for fall 2024

The youngest children can begin violin lessons using the Suzuki method. In this approach, children as young as 4 years old learn to play in the same way they learn to speak. They learn to listen and imitate the sounds of beautiful music with constant encouragement and support from their parents/adults. Each week, the child, along with their parent, will have a private lesson with a trained Suzuki teacher. This gives a parent the wonderful opportunity to learn alongside their child as well as the ability to support their child’s practicing at home. In addition to the weekly private lessons, children and their families will participate in a weekly group class where they will learn new skills along with other students while reinforcing what they have learned in lessons and becoming friends with other kids who play the violin.

Fall 2024 group classes will be Mondays at 4:30

Chamber Music
Strongsville School for Strings
new for fall 2024

Joining together with friends in small groups to play music is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences possible in music. Working in this way allows students to develop valuable leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that go far beyond their musical studies. We are pleased to offer this opportunity. Students in this program will meet weekly with their chamber music coach as well as on their own to rehearse. Prepared groups will have performance opportunities.

Most coachings will occur on Fridays after school.
